Codorniou Socialist Candidate for Narbonne in 2007? |
Can
the Red Wave that swept through France in the European, Departmental
and Regional elections wash away Michel Moynier and his "apolitical"
Noveau Narbonne from the Mairie of Narbonne in 2007?
To the surpise of everyone, not least herself, Murielle Raymond
won the blue rinse departmental seat of Narbonne East earlier this
year and the Socialists were re-elected in Narbonne West with a
large increase in their majority. If the last two elections are
anything to go by then the Socialist Party and their communist and
green allies, united in Narbonne Unie, look set to sweep the board.
The key debate at the moment is who is going to lead the Narbonne
Unie list in 2007? In 2001 and 2002, the first election was invaildated
due to voting iregularities for Michel Moynier, the list was unsucessfully
lead by Jacques Bascou- the Socialist Deputy to the National Assembly.
Already rumours are strong in the Socialist Party that Bascou may
be pushed into second place by a new and up and coming star, Didier
Codorniou, Mayor of Grussian. Codorniou
is already an elected member of the Agglo of Narbonne, his road
to the Department is blocked by a deal with the Communist Party
which gives the Departmental seat for Gruissan and Coursan to the
communist Mayor of Coursan, Gilbert Pla, so Narbonne is the next
logical step up for this dynamic and ambitious politician. Within
Narbonne Unie the communists will probably support his candidature,
not least to rid themselves of the threat of Codorniou breaking
party discipline and standing against Pla in the next Departmentals,
and the greens seem to do what ever the Socialists ask them in return
for protected seats in Narbonne and the high Aude valley. So the
only blocking point may be Codorniou good friend Bascou who may
be unwilling to see all his hard work in Narbonne go unrewarded.
Bascou+Codorniou or Cordorniou+Bascou for the nationals? Watch this
space.
