At
the closure date, 27th February, nine lists of candudates have been
submitted to the Prefecture in Montpellier for the Regional elections.
Front National pour le Languedoc-Rousillon, Jean Marie LePen's
hard right and neo-fascists headed by Alain Jamet Looks likely to
win around 14% in the first tour, be prepared for a second tour
deal with Blanc which will see them with a sizable number of seats
on the Region.
Languedoc-Catalogne 2004, Occitan regionalist/nationists,
headed by Christian Lacour. By some fluke they won a handful of
seats last time round, may get squeezed by the hard right this time.
Although they have many good things to say about ecology and economic
redevelopment they tend to swing towards xenophobia when talking
about migration-European and Maghebian.
La vraie droite en Languedoc-Roussillon. Bruno Megret's MNR,
a FN slinter group- just as mad and unpleasant. Listed headed by
Elisabeth Pascal.
LCR/LO- Trotskists of the world unite- Olivier Besancenot
who overshadowed veteran Trot candidate Arlette Laguillier in the
last Presidencials have kisssed and made up and now will do a duet
denouncing everyone else as right wing sell outs.List lead by David
Hermet.

Chasse
Peche NatureTraditions- sort of a heavily armed Countryside
Alliance. Led locally by Alain Esclope. Essentially conservative
and xenophobic. Oh and by the way, why does your local party militant,
my village's chef du chasse dump all his plastic waste into the
river?
Union Toute-
headed by Montpellier's Mayor George Freche. Combined Socialist,
Communist and Green list. On 31% for first round. In with a chance
after 18 years in opposition.
Union pour le Languedoc-Roussillon headed by Jacques Blanc,
last 18 years President of Region. L'UMP, disident UDF list. on
29% for first tour, expect a deal with FN for second tour.
La Releve Marc Dufour, head by Marc Dufour- ex-patron of
Air Litoral.UDF centrists. I wouldn't like to be in his shoes canvassing
for support in Montpellier
Liste ecologiste et citoyenne, headed by George Fandos. Part
of Corinne LePage from Cap 21 crew. She is the environment minster
at the moment- basically right wing conservationists.
